How to get there

Smylies Accommodation is on the Main road , { State Highway 73} on the left as you enter Springfield from Christchurch.

State Highway 73 is the main route between Christchurch and the West Coast over Arthur's Pass .

Travel options:

  • The Tranz Alpine train runs once in the morning to the West Coast and returns in the afternoon.
  • Atomic Shuttles:03-3228883 this is the one you get on at 7.30 am to link in to go to Porters
  • Smylies Shuttle service: 03-3184740 or fax  03-3184780 airport pick up, mountain transport
  • West coast shuttle coach :03-7680028 or 02749207488 passes thru around 11 towards chch and leaves chch at 3.00 pm for arrival around 4.00 pm ,suitable for YHA /CHILL accommodation voucher holders

If travelling from Tekapo~South:  follow State Highway 72/77 north thru the Rakaia Gorge until Sheffield then join 73 west for 9km.

If travelling from Kaikoura~North  turn off State Highway 1 at Amberley and head towards Rangiora~Oxford on 72 until Sheffield carry on for a further 5 min to the mountains and we are on the lefthand side
